8.8 Video Lecture Series: Fishing Example … (5:55)

In this video Dr. Bounds will give an example of solving a test of significance involving two independent sample means.  Smith and Jones argue over who is the best fisherman based on the average number of fish caught over a period of time.  Using the t-test for independent means the two are able to determine if there is a statistically significant difference in the average number of fish caught.

8.9 Bounds t-test calculator

This Excel program should work on a PC or a Mac.  Determine which t-test you want to perform - independent samples or related samples (see tabs at bottom of the spreadsheet to switch between the two).  Enter the data in the appropriate columns and the program computes the t value.  To delete the data, simply highlight it and delete it with the Delete key on your keyboard.  DO NOT DELETE entire rows or columns since doing so will mess up the calculator.

8.10 Video Lecture Series: Bounds' t-test calculator … (3:45)

In this video Dr. Bounds demonstrates how to use his instructor-created Excel program to solve t-test questions and will demonstrate how to use it to solve the Smith and Jones argument over who is the best fisherman based on the average number of fish caught over a period of time.  Using the t-test for independent means the two are able to determine if there is a statistically significant difference in the average number of fish caught.
